Tights have long been favoured by women of all ages and shapes for their practicality and ease of wear. For a long time, it was only possible to buy ladies tights in a range of various flesh colours but, in recent years, tights have become as essential a part of an outfit as a dress or shoes and manufacturers have become ever more imaginative.

Today, it seems that anything goes. There is a huge range of opaque tights available which are very popular because they give an overall colour to the legs and a slimming look. The colour of these was confined to black for a while, but now they are available in any and every shade and are great for colour-coordinating an outfit. They can be worn as a contrasting colour, say, navy blue tights with a cream-coloured dress, or, to give a neat tailored look, in the same colour as the outfit being worn. The added advantage of opaque tights is that they are made in a thicker denier which will help the wearer to stay warm during cold weather.

It’s not just the colours that women have a choice of these days. Most ranges of ladies tights now include a few different textured lacy designs, which look lovely worn with party dresses and so on, and there are also many different types of print to be found, some quite demure and elegant, and some in bright almost luminous colours that look great for evenings spent enjoying the nightlife. Floral designs are popular but there is a growing trend for more outrageous prints such as jacquard or snakeskin, which, worn with a plain dress, can look stunning and very eye-catching.
